If you need Community Service hours, maybe we can help. We set aside the first day of each month to remind you that finding service hours in the Brandon area for students and volunteers is key to our mission statement. Below is a list of events in which The Community Roundtable is involved. Opportunities exist in the month in which the event is held and sometimes for several weeks beforehand. The volunteer tasks vary greatly, everything from phoning local charities to keying data online to updating excel spreadsheets  to updating content pages on our web site to taking photos at an event to working on  golf tournament to carrying a banner in a parade and everything in between. If our tasks are not of interest to you, we might be able to direct  you elsewhere.  We have a positive relationship with over 30 other charities in the Brandon area that could use you services. Volunteer opportunities exist  for students seeking community service hours.  Volunteers are needed on the first Wednesday of each month, when the Elks hold their monthly dinner.   In addition to gaining credit for community service hours, dinner is provided to all volunteers.  There is a monthly need of 4 to 6 volunteers per dinner.  Please contact the Elks’ main off for details regarding student volunteer opportunities.  Web site = www.brandonelks.org At the Brandon Lodge, we support our local community by supporting the Brandon Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO) with school supplies for children that could not afford them and food donations for needy families. We have a teenager of the Month, during the School Year, providing them with Savings Bonds to help in their college education along with giving Scholarships. We currently have an Adopt-A-Vet program to benefit the veterans in the James A Haley Hospital as well as Liberty Manor in Tampa, Florida. The first Wednesday of every month a free dinner is provided to these vets in our lodge. Every Sunday in February, we transport the Veterans to Chapel. In December, we adopt families that would not have a Christmas without us.Our Ladies Organization, the B.L.O.E. (Brandon Ladies Of Elks) work hard to help support the Elks. They purchase many articles needed in the Lodge and the Lodge kitchen along with supporting many charities in the area. They give four college scholarships each year and send 10 children to the Florida Elks Camp that would not be able to attend camp without assistance. In addition they provide Food Gift Certificates to the families that Elks adopt at Christmas.

Jul 17 @ 2:00 pm
Camp Lejeune Town Hall Meeting - Monday @ James A Haley Hospital Room 2A-215 (2nd floor auditorium) | Tampa | Florida | United States
Tampa, FL— Three local chapters of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) will hold a town hall-style meeting at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, July 17th , at James A. Haley Hospital in the Auditorium (Room 2A-215) on the second floor. The purpose is to discuss options for Camp Lejeune veterans seeking Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) assistance tied to exposure to contaminants in the water supply at Camp Lejeune. At the meeting Marc McCabe, VVA National Service Officer, will provide details about the VA regulations to establish presumptions for the service connection of eight diseases associated with exposure. Additionally, he will help veterans and their families understand the process of filing for compensation and medical care. The VA offers disability compensation for veterans themselves, while family members are limited to reimbursement for past and future medical expenses. Further, he will assist the veterans in filing their claim for compensation From 1953 to 1987, as many as 1 million people were exposed to contaminated water at the sprawling North Carolina base. In March, the VA established the regulations for service connection for the claims of veterans with at least one of eight of the contamination’s hallmark conditions — including bladder cancer, kidney cancer, leukemia and Parkinson’s disease. The presumption of service connection applies to active duty, reserve and National Guard members of all services who served at Camp Lejeune for a minimum of 30 days (cumulative) between August 1, 1953 and December 31, 1987.
